Details

A Low Energy AHU is the mechanical foundation of any high-performance building in Malaysia. In the context of the EECA 2024, "low energy" is no longer a marketing term; it is a technical requirement defined by your building's Building Energy Intensity (BEI).

At EKG (Malaysia) SDN BHD, our low-energy designs focus on minimizing the Specific Fan Power (SFP) and maximizing thermal integrity to ensure your facility meets the mandatory star-rating targets.

1. The Low-Energy Technical Framework

For an AHU to be classified as low-energy in accordance with MS 1525, it must optimize the "Active Measures" of your building's mechanical ventilation.

  • SFP Benchmark: We engineer our units to achieve an SFP of less than 1.6 kW per cubic meter per second. This ensures the fan uses the absolute minimum wattage required to overcome duct resistance.

  • IE4/IE5 Motor Efficiency: A low-energy AHU must use premium-efficiency motors. We utilize EC Plug Fans that operate at IE4 or IE5 levels, converting nearly all electrical input into mechanical airflow with zero belt-slippage loss.

2. Core Energy-Saving Features

To lower the total kWh per year consumed by your HVAC system, we integrate three critical low-energy technologies:

A. Demand-Controlled Ventilation (DCV)

The unit uses CO2 sensors to detect occupancy. If a meeting room is empty, the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) slows the fan down. Because of the "Cube Law" of fans, a 20 percent reduction in speed can lead to a 50 percent reduction in power use.

B. TB2 Thermal Integrity

Energy is often wasted when heat from the mechanical room leaks into the cold air stream. We use TB2-rated thermal breaks and double-skin casings to stop this "thermal migration," ensuring every watt of cooling reaches the target zone.

C. Energy Recovery (ERW)

In Malaysia's tropical climate, cooling fresh air is energy-intensive. We integrate Thermal Wheels that "recycle" the cool, dry air from your building's exhaust to pre-condition the hot, humid intake air, reducing your chiller load by up to 30 percent.

3. Impact on EECA 2024 Compliance

Investing in a low-energy AHU is the most direct way to move your building into a higher star-rating category.

Feature Standard AHU EKG Low Energy AHU
Star Rating Potential 1-Star (Non-Compliant) 3 to 5-Stars (Compliant)
SFP Rating > 2.0 kW per m3/s < 1.6 kW per m3/s
Motor Drive Belt-Driven AC Direct-Drive EC Fan
Heat Recovery None Integrated ERW / Heat Pipe
Casing Leakage L3 (High Loss) L1 (Precision Seal)
TNB Bill Impact High 30% to 50% Lower

Why Choose EKG (Malaysia) SDN BHD?
