The Science of Energy Savings: The Affinity Laws

The primary reason for installing a VFD is the mathematical relationship between fan speed and power consumption. According to the Fan Affinity Laws:

  • Airflow is proportional to fan speed.

  • Power consumption is proportional to the cube of the fan speed.
