A fire escape route must remain a "breathable sanctuary" to allow occupants to exit safely and to provide a clear staging area for BOMBA personnel.

The Three Pillars of Escape Ventilation

Effective fire escape ventilation is achieved through a multi-layered approach to air movement.

1. Staircase Pressurization (Active Protection)

For high-rise buildings exceeding 45.75 meters, natural ventilation is often insufficient. We install mechanical pressurization systems that inject fresh air into the stairwell.

  • The 50 Pa Shield: The system maintains a positive pressure of 50 Pascals (Pa) inside the stairwell. This physically "pushes back" smoke, preventing it from entering the escape route even if a fire door is opened.

  • Velocity Wash: When a door is opened, the system provides an air velocity of 1.0 m/s across the opening to wash away incoming toxic gases.

2. Smoke Lobby & Corridor Extraction (Smoke Spill)

Before smoke reaches the stairwell, it must be managed in the lobbies and corridors.

  • Negative Pressure: While the stairwell is pressurized (positive), the fire-affected lobby is put under negative pressure via high-powered extraction fans.

  • Fire-Rated Ducting: We utilize 1.2mm heavy-gauge G.I. ducting with a 2-hour fire rating (FRL 120/120/120) to transport hot gases safely out of the building.

3. Natural Ventilation (Passive Safety)

In low-to-mid-rise buildings, we utilize passive vents to clear smoke.

  • UBBL Clause 111: We install permanent openings or louvers at every landing. These must be at least 10% of the staircase floor area to allow smoke to buoyant-lift and exit the building naturally.
