High-Efficiency Smoke Removal Systems by EKG M&E Sdn Bhd

In the densely populated urban centers of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, high-efficiency smoke removal is a critical M&E requirement for commercial kitchens, industrial facilities, and enclosed public spaces. Standard ventilation is often insufficient to capture the sub-micron particles found in heavy cooking smoke or industrial bypass. EKG M&E Sdn Bhd specializes in engineering multi-stage "Clean Air" systems that achieve up to 99% smoke capture efficiency, ensuring compliance with DOE (Department of Environment) and DBKL/MBPJ regulations.

The Architecture of High-Efficiency Smoke Removal

To achieve "High-Efficiency" status, a system must move beyond simple mechanical filters and utilize molecular and electrostatic forces.

1. Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) Integration

The core of any high-efficiency smoke system. The ESP uses high-voltage ionization to give smoke particles an electrical charge, which then causes them to "stick" to grounded collection plates.

  • Sub-Micron Capture: ESPs are uniquely capable of capturing particles as small as 0.01 microns, which includes the finest grease mists and smoke plumes that would pass right through a standard G4 or bag filter.

2. Multi-Stage Mechanical Polishing (HEPA/ULPA)

For medical facilities, laboratories, or premium Grade-A offices where zero-smoke discharge is required, we add a final mechanical layer.

  • HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air): We utilize H13/H14 HEPA filters to trap 99.97% of any remaining particles. To prevent these dense filters from "choking" the system, we calibrate the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) to maintain high static pressure.

3. Photolytic & Ozone Oxidation (UV-C)

Smoke is often accompanied by intense odors. We utilize UV-C lamps within the ductwork.

  • Molecular Breakdown: The UV light breaks down grease and smoke molecules via photolysis, while the resulting ozone neutralizes odors through oxidation, ensuring the air discharged at the rooftop is both clear and scent-free.

Engineering for Operational Efficiency

As an HVAC and Clean Air Specialist, we ensure that high-efficiency doesn't mean high-cost.

  • Demand Controlled Ventilation (DCV):

We integrate Smoke and CO2 Sensors into the system. During low-activity periods, the VFD slows the extraction fans; the moment smoke is detected, the system automatically ramps up to maximum Air Change Rate (ACR) to clear the zone.

  • Building Pressure Management:

High-efficiency extractors pull massive volumes of air. We synchronize this with your Kitchen Make-up Air (MUA) to maintain a slight Positive Pressure in the dining or occupied areas. This "Pressure Shield" prevents smoke from migrating into guest zones and keeps KL street dust out.

  • VFD Optimization:

We program the VFD to compensate for "Filter Loading." As the smoke filters accumulate particles and static pressure rises, the fan speed adjusts to ensure constant, safe suction at the source.

Performance Comparison Matrix

Feature Standard Exhaust EKG M&E High-Efficiency System
Particle Capture ~40% (Visible smoke only). 95% - 99.9% (Sub-micron).
Odor Removal Low (Smells linger). High (Neutralized via Carbon/UV).
Duct Cleanliness Heavy grease buildup. Minimal (Protects M&E assets).
Compliance Basic Health Codes. DOE / DBKL / BOMBA / GBI.
