In the fire safety architecture of KL and PJ skyscrapers and shopping malls, the Smoke Spill Fan is the most critical mechanical component for life safety. Unlike standard ventilation fans, these are engineered to operate in extreme conditions to "flush" toxic gases out of the building. Engineering for Extreme Thermal Loads

A high-temperature smoke spill fan is designed to maintain its structural integrity and rotational speed even when the air passing through it exceeds 250°C.

  • Class H Insulated Motors:

    We utilize motors with Class H insulation, specifically certified to run for a minimum of 2 hours at 250°C. This ensures the fan does not "seize" or burn out during the most critical window of an evacuation.

  • Aerodynamic Axial Design:

    Most smoke spill systems utilize Axial Flow Fans because they can move massive volumes of air (high m3/s) at the high static pressures required to pull smoke through long runs of fire-rated ducting.

  • Fire-Rated Power Supply:

    As an M&E specialist, we ensure these fans are wired with fire-resistant cables and connected to the building’s essential power circuit (Genset) via an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS).


Strategic Integration & Control Logic

A smoke spill fan is only as effective as the logic that triggers it. We integrate these units into the Building Management System (BMS) and Fire Alarm Panel with specific "Emergency Mode" protocols:

  • VFD Fire-Mode Override:

    While we use Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to save energy during normal "air-purging" cycles, the system features a Fire-Mode Trigger. Upon a smoke signal, the VFD bypasses all internal motor protections (which would normally trip the fan to prevent damage) to ensure it runs until the fire is suppressed or the motor fails mechanically.

  • Replacement (Make-Up) Air Interlock:

    To prevent the building from becoming a "vacuum"—which would make exit doors impossible to open—our fans are interlocked with motorized fresh air louvers. For every cubic meter of smoke exhausted, a cubic meter of fresh air is introduced at a low level.
